Maths

We build confident mathematicians at Cheam Park Farm.  We enable pupils to develop strong maths abilities for everyday problem-solving and future success. Our maths mastery approach helps pupils see the interconnected nature of mathematics. Pupils build a strong foundation of understanding, leading to increased confidence and competence. Due to the nature of our spiral curriculum, children revisit topics year on year to ensure that they have firm understanding of concepts before moving to secondary school.

  • Manipulatives: Pupils use a range of manipulatives to help support their understanding and reasoning

  • Problem Solving: We believe that it is important that children know how to approach maths problems with a wide range of strategies to solve them. By doing this, we promote confidence and flexibility in mathematical ability.

  • Building a strong foundation: From our youngest children in nursery to our oldest in year 6, we cultivate a strong foundation in mathematical ability to create adaptable thinkers who can apply their knowledge in a variety of contexts.

  • Integrating technology: By ensuring that children have access to technology, we can represent maths in a wide variety of ways to suit all learners.

  • Maths in the real world: Real-life examples help children see how maths is used in the world around them, making learning meaningful and engaging.

We follow the Maths No Problem scheme of work. We also incorporate high-quality mathematical resources from other providers into our lessons to provide children with opportunities to reason and problem solve, including NCETM and White Rose.

We enrich our maths curriculum in a number of ways. This includes: TTRS, Century, Maths Week London, WonderMaths Challenge and Quiz Club.
