School Uniform

Statement of Equality

Under the Equality Act 2010 we have a duty not to discriminate against people on the basis of their age, disability, gender, gender identity, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief and sexual orientation.

It is school policy that all children wear school uniform when attending school, or when participating in a school-organised event outside normal school hours. We provide a complete list of the items needed for school uniform below.

Our policy on school uniform is based on the notion that school uniform:

  • promotes a sense of pride in the school;

  • engenders a sense of community and belonging towards the school;

  • is practical and smart;

  • identifies the children with the school;

  • prevents children from coming to school in fashion clothes that could be distracting in class;

  • makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance;

  • is regarded as suitable wear for school and good value for money by most parents;

  • is designed with health and safety in mind.

The school sweatshirt with embroidered logo from Schoolwear Inc is reasonably priced from £11.99. With the exception of the embroidered logo school sweatshirt/cardigan you may also purchase school uniform from high street shops and other retail outlets.

Children should present a smart appearance for school and tops must be tucked in. We ask that all children wear shoes (except in Foundation Stage) as stated in the uniform list. If it remotely resembles a trainer please don't buy it even if it is labeled a shoe.

Parents are asked to ensure their child brings a coat to school every day even if the weather is fine - there is no supervision available for children to stay inside.

In order to avoid confusion and to keep lost property to a minimum, all items of clothing, P.E. kit, bags etc. MUST be clearly named, before being brought into the school.

The following are not allowed:

  • Watches in KS1 (watches in KS2 are worn at their own risk)

  • Jewellery except small plain studs*

  • Make up, nail varnish etc

  • Dyed hair

  • Patterns/logos cut in hair

  • Less than No. 3 shaves

  • Loose long hair

  • Too many clips or bobbles

  • Hair gel / Sprays

  • Extensions not matching natural hair

  • Heels higher than 3cm

  • Trainers - unless PE Day (shoes needed to be changed into)

  • Boots (unless heavy snow settles on the ground and an appropriate change of footwear is brought to school for indoor wear)

*The school will accept no liability for accidents incurred through the wearing of earrings as we politely ask parents to take earrings out on PE days, or provide tape to cover.

Girls are allowed to wear a plain coloured hijab. A breathable Hijab (capster) may be worn for PE and Islamic swimwear may also be worn for swimming.

The school accepts no responsibility for removed earrings - please provide a suitable container for them to be stored in.

If your child will be having their ears pierced please ensure that this is done at the start of the summer holidays to ensure there is sufficient time for them to heal and for earrings to be safely removed for PE.

We ask all parents who send their children to our school to support the school uniform policy. We believe that parents have a duty to send their children to school correctly dressed and ready for their daily schoolwork. One of the responsibilities of parents is to ensure that their child has the correct uniform and that it is clean and in good repair.
