Maths & Financial Literacy

We build confident mathematicians at Cheam Park Farm.  We enable pupils to develop strong maths abilities for everyday problem-solving and future success. Our maths mastery approach helps pupils see the interconnected nature of mathematics. Pupils build a strong foundation of understanding, leading to increased confidence and competence. Due to the nature of our spiral curriculum, children revisit topics year on year to ensure that they have firm understanding of concepts before moving to secondary school.

  • Manipulatives: Pupils use a range of manipulatives to help support their understanding and reasoning

  • Problem Solving: We believe that it is important that children know how to approach maths problems with a wide range of strategies to solve them. By doing this, we promote confidence and flexibility in mathematical ability.

  • Building a strong foundation: From our youngest children in nursery to our oldest in year 6, we cultivate a strong foundation in mathematical ability to create adaptable thinkers who can apply their knowledge in a variety of contexts.

  • Integrating technology: By ensuring that children have access to technology, we can represent maths in a wide variety of ways to suit all learners.

  • Maths in the real world: Real-life examples help children see how maths is used in the world around them, making learning meaningful and engaging.

We follow the Maths No Problem scheme of work. We also incorporate high-quality mathematical resources from other providers into our lessons to provide children with opportunities to reason and problem solve, including NCETM and White Rose.

We enrich our maths curriculum in a number of ways. This includes: TTRS, Century, Maths Week London, WonderMaths Challenge and Quiz Club.

More information can be found on the Maths No Problem! website.

Financial Literacy

At Cheam Park Farm our financial education curriculum provides pupils with the essential knowledge, skills and confidence to be able to make informed and independent financial decisions. We want our pupils to have a bright financial future with a positive mindset towards finance, leading to fulfilled, happy and purposeful lives. We foster an awareness of the crucial nature finance plays in everyday life. Our ambition is to create a culture where our pupils can understand and respect the value of money whilst making sensible financial choices.

Within our ambitious curriculum offer, we bring our finance lessons to life across the curriculum by delivering financial lessons linked to real life contexts, adapting teaching to the ever-changing financial climate our pupils grow up in. Learning in school is delivered alongside our commitment to the LEO Pupil Outcomes by developing pupil’s financial literacy skills to become leaders and life-long learners. Furthermore, we want to equip children with the awareness that having and spending money is not the root of all happiness.

Financial education in our school – alongside support at home and in the community – helps our pupils to build foundations for future financial wellbeing and resilience. Pupils who have learned about managing money in school do better on many measures of financial capability than their peers. They are more likely to:

  • save up frequently

  • have a bank account

  • be confident managing their money

Financial education helps pupils learn how to manage their money now and in the future, choose the best financial products and services and protect themselves from fraud and exploitation.
