How are children involved in planning and decision making?
SEND Code of Practice (2015)
It is important to involve children and their families when planning and making decisions.
This is done in several ways:
-
School council/committees: Children with SEND are part of the decision making with their school council
-
Pupil surveys: Pupil voice is captured through surveys throughout the school
-
Emotional screeners: In reception, year 3 and year 5 children complete emotional screeners to communicate
-
Pupil passports: a one-page profile outlining how to support a child in school so staff are aware of needs
-
Learning support plans & pupil voice: targets being worked on are written in a child friendly way
-
Annual reviews for children with EHCPs: children and young people who have an EHCP are invited to attend a segment of their annual review and are supported to complete an ‘all about me’ page
